Honeymoon Planning
Shriya shares, “We decided on Istanbul because it is a destination neither of us had ever visited before. Having just had a tropical wedding, we wanted to unwind in just one city, take our time to leisurely explore the area, and enjoy each other’s company. Apart from the amazing weather and food that appealed to us, Istanbul also offered some incredible sights and architecture”.
Honeymoon Highlights
“We wanted to make the most of our stay, so instead of traveling around the country, we stayed for 3 days in new Istanbul and 3 days in old Istanbul, soaking up the sights, culture, and delicious local food. Some of the places we visited were – Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sofia, Istiklal Street, Dolmabahce and Topkapi Palace, Princes Island, Grand Bazaar, Aga Hamam, Galata Tower, Galata Port, among others”.
Best Meal of the trip
“We explored the small native cafés everywhere we went in Istanbul. The Turkish breakfast everywhere was amazing, and so was the hummus and onion rings. The San Sebastián cheesecake was the best I have had in my life and is probably the most memorable delicacy of the entire trip. Near Hagia Sofia, Mado is the place for it, and on Istiklal street, Vitavien cafe is the best”.
Most romantic moment
“We are not the kind of people who are into grand romantic gestures and moments, so for us, it was the small things we enjoyed and cherished the most, like having a cozy breakfast at Galata Port and then strolling with a cup of coffee in our hands, having conversations, going for hamam together, exploring the architectural lanes of Istanbul, and more.”
Advice for other couples
“Stay at the old and the new side of the town to get a mix of architectural beauty and modern Turkish flavors. You will enjoy the city the most if you are up for long walks, so please wear comfortable shoes and be ready to set off for the day. Download the local taxi app and it is cheaper than hailing taxis on the road. And finally, if you want to make the most of the trip, stay in Istanbul for at least 5 days.”
