Young and Inspiring – Photographer Monisha Ajgaonkar, Founder of The Photo Diary
Wedding Photography & Films, Young and Inspiring - Nov 15, 2016
Our series ‘Young and Inspiring’ showcases fresh, exciting new talent powerhouses from the design, fashion and event domains who specialize in creating dream weddings for couples with stars in their eyes. Meet Photographer Monisha Ajgaonkar, Founder and Director of The Photo Diary, which offers all wedding photography and wedding cinematography services.
1. Tell us about your journey into the world of wedding photography.
Wedding photography happened to me by accident. I was young, had no direction, clues, lost. I hated studying, slept through my lectures. But then, as a guest at a friend’s wedding, I was drunk and started taking random photographs. The next day, looking at what I’d captured, it took me by surprise! So I decided to run with it and it was one of the best decisions of my life.
2. What is your photographic style?
It’s quirky and fun. I never go with a predetermined mindset to any event. Though I love capturing the true essence of events as they unfold in front of me, I always go prepared. I am constantly researching new techniques and on the lookout for new ways to capture the same thing. I experiment with lenses to get better shots and in the case of weddings, I’m always watching for an interesting subject and a truly vulnerable, candid moment.
3. What are the hottest trends in wedding and pre-wedding photography this season?
Wedding trends on the up are 360-degree photographs, cinema graphs and couples also request that original music to be composed specifically for their wedding trailers and films. For pre-wedding shoots, couples want destination wedding shoots and pre-wedding films.
4. What is the most unusual request that you have ever had?
Well, it’s usual and unusual – a client asked that I make her ‘look thin’ in her wedding video.
5. Is there a film or photograph you hold close to your heart?
My favorite film has to be ‘Bring on the wife’. This shoot was a gift for a very good friend, which meant I got to enjoy the wedding and do what I love most – shoot! The footage shows how much fun we had shooting this wedding and that’s what I want to see with every film I do, capture the fun, the happiness.
The favorite film: Bring on the wife!
6. What’s your advice to couples searching for their dream photographer?
Every photography and videography company has a unique style of capturing and editing their work. Do not get a company on board just because your friend had them on board for their wedding. Don’t ask a wedding photographer or videographer to change their style to suit your tastes. It’s better to select someone whose work you like in the first play, someone who matches your vibe and style.
