Snehil and Arunjot’s Platinum Love Story

Finance professionals Snehil Bhatt and Arunjot Singh first met at university while pursuing their post-graduation. After both of them got elected to lead the Indian association at their university, the duo struck up a close friendship as they discussed their studies, mingled with the same set of friends, and envisioned a future in New York City. Arunjot shares, “Both of us were the youngest people in our batch who’d shifted to New York to pursue our Master’s degree. We instantly clicked as we knew that it’s going to be a challenging journey for both of us who had no prior work experience and had never left our home cities to pursue a degree elsewhere.” Snehil adds, “It was, of course, very intimidating for me. But luckily, I found Arun whose optimism rubbed off on me. His outgoing nature spurred me to open up, which, in turn, led me to make new friends and connections in a strange new city.”
Building a life and career from scratch in one of the most competitive cities in the world is a difficult feat. For Snehil and Arunjot, their friendship and seamless understanding have spurred them to thrive and stay steadfast in the pursuit of their goals. Arunjot shares, “I think the friendship that Snehil and I share has been incredibly helpful in our quest for success and inner peace. Yes, we do love each other but we also look at things in a practical manner and exchange advice transparently as friends! Even now, so many years after graduation, we are very much aware of the fact that we both came to the USA to build a career for ourselves. And, that will always take precedence. Both of us are fervently ambitious and constantly push each other to do better. Be it a high-profile successful release, acquiring a new client for our company, or getting promoted, we revel in the small steps we have taken forward while keeping the focus on the bigger picture.” Snehil adds, “From day one, we knew that it wasn’t just his journey or mine. It’s ‘our journey’. Having said that, there are times when the days aren’t as shiny and we do face challenges. During times like these, we draw strength from each other and naturally step up to make the situation easier. On my difficult days, I have a tendency to act on impulse and Arun uses his patience to help me untangle the chaos in my mind. And on days when Arun has faced hiccups, I make sure that he comes home to a warm and welcoming environment as I set up a table, order his favorite food and sit by his side, listen to what’s on his mind and help him come up with solutions.”
Home is where the heart is. And, it’s no different for Snehil and Arunjot who’ve found a sense of belonging in each other, consequently making the fast-paced New York City home for them. Arunjot shares, “Home is where you feel safe. And that’s something we’ve always felt with each other. Sometimes, I think she knows me better than I know myself as she has this uncanny ability to guess exactly what’s going on in my mind at a particular moment! In her presence, my words, musings, and insecurities can be expressed unfiltered and sans any fear of judgment. Yes, we do miss our parents who’re living in India but over the years, our strong friendship and love have led us to become a strong family unit. For us, activities like watching sitcoms together, conducting cooking experiments in the kitchen, going to the supermarket, hosting Diwali parties, and impromptu ‘ice cream in bed dates’ draw us closer. In time we have also crafted some of our own traditions. Like, our box of tokens in which we collect small souvenirs like airplane tickets, restaurant receipts, and bottle caps, from places where we’ve spent fond moments. Every anniversary we open this box, sift through the memories, and reminisce about the great time we had together. This practice has also led us to feel appreciative about the bond we share.”
Snehil, on the other hand, is thankful to have found a partner who has her back no matter what and transparently and respectfully expresses his opinions even though they may contradict hers. She shares, “I remember this one particular instance where I enthusiastically shared a business idea with Arun. As I completed explaining my vision to him, I expected him to get excited along with me. Instead, he responded with multiple questions! I was miffed and we had a small spat. But as I calmed down, I understood that the questions he’d asked about my idea were quite valid. As we made up, Arun said, ‘I will be truly helping only if I’m honestly voicing my thoughts and concerns to you. Otherwise, it’s just superficial. If you wish to pursue this idea, I want you to be successful.’ We may have our differences but I can trust him implicitly as he always has my best interests at heart.” Arunjot adds, “Love calls for romance but it also calls for gentle correction and flexibility. While encouragement is crucial for growth, so is constructive criticism. Thankfully, our candid rapport has led us to develop an unshakeable belief in each other’s motives which has led us to grow in the longer run.”
