Six ways to get married at The Shangri-la Hotel, Paris
Destination Weddings - Feb 26, 2016
What’s more romantic than getting married in the city of love? With its stunning architecture, old-world charm, history and elegant style, Paris is a dream destination for many couples. Shangri-La Hôtel Paris on Avenue d’Iéna in the Trocadéro district is a magical setting in which to hold your wedding, gracefully blending Oriental design influences and classic French decor.
Originally built in 1896, this palace is the former residence of French imperial Prince Roland Bonaparte. The prince commissioned architect Ernest Janty, renowned for his reconstruction work of the Louvre and Tuileries palaces for Napoleon III, to design an elegant home and reception areas in order to receive notable guests. The palace’s façade is inspired by the Louis XIV style, with intricate masonry of stone from L’Oise. Sculptors Steiner and Houguenade, who also rose to fame for their craftsmanship on the Louvre and the Tuileries Palaces, were commissioned to carve the façade’s “eclectic style,” featuring the family’s coat of arms, lion heads and antlers.
This remarkably opulent hotel could be the venue of your nuptials. Here are six exceptional ways to host a wedding at The Shangri-la Hotel Paris.
Grand salon
One of the bigger banquet room and the most magnificent venue in the Shangri-La hotel – Le Grand salon is designed in a Louis XIV décor, and hosts a large white marble chimney, adorned with gold bronze, and surmounted by a glass trumeau, original chandeliers, a marble fireplace, and rich tones of gold and cream. It is ideal for dinners and engagement ceremonies. This banquet room can hold upto 180 guests.
Salon de Famille
The Salon de Famille draws its inspiration from the Empire style décor, airy and fresh, making it perfect for an initiate lunch or daytime function for a few of your guests. Marie Bonaparte’s engagement to the Prince of Greece took place in this very room in 1907. This function room is ideal for groups of 30 to 60 guests.
Salle à Manger
La Salle a Manger is a function room which is perfect for a formal sit down dinner for about 40 – 60 guests. The Chimney, the Salle à Manger’s masterpiece, was inspired by the Renaissance era, and is surmounted by a mantelpiece made up of two columns decorated with a bronze relief. This bronze relief is a replica of David’s painting depicting “Bonaparte conquering the Great Saint Bernard”.
Salon Roland Bonaparte
The Salon Roland Bonaparte is the largest of the venues and is situated on the Fresnel side of the Hotel. Remarkable for its elegant French décor and natural daylight, its walls are adorned with beautiful frescos and arcades. It is ideal for cocktail parties, wedding ceremonies and receptions. This function room hold upto 310 guests.
The Terrace
The first-floor terrace with a magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower – possibly one of the finest in Paris – is the perfect setting for a very intimate wedding or renewal of vows.
La Suite Shangri-La
La Suite Shangri-La offers a sprawling 220 sqm of pure luxury, including a private terrace that stretches for 100 sqm with the Eiffel Tower virtually at your doorstep. This suite is located on the seventh floor and offers the most mind-blowing view of Paris, from Montmartre to the Trocadero. Perfect for an intimate celebration with loved ones.
With weddings, it’s all in the smallest details, and that’s where Shangri-La delivers like no one else. The hotel can arrange epic arrivals (the bride and groom in a horse-drawn carriage); exclusive floral arrangements (imagine white orchids everywhere in the lobby); calligraphy for table place cards; make-up (to get the bridal party runway ready); and music—whether a classical concert or one of the hottest DJs in town.
