Payal and Dhairya’s Platinum love story

Tech Professional Payal Kode and Healthcare Professional Dhairya Damani first crossed paths during their undergraduate course, but it took a while for them to become friends, and even longer to act upon their feelings. Soon after they officially started dating, they shifted to the US to pursue their Masters in different cities, kick-starting a new era not just in their individual lives but also in their relationship. As they set out in a whole new environment to build the lives they wanted, they became each other’s constants through the trials and tribulations that came their way, chasing their dreams together through it all.
For Dhairya, a life-changing experience was a back injury that he suffered soon after moving to the US, which gave him new insight into what rare love is all about. He shares, “Going through major surgeries while living away from home for the first time and also trying to keep up with my academic demands made the first few years here quite challenging. However, when I look back at all that, what I remember the most is the solace and love I got from Payal. Coming to the US was a new and exciting chapter in her life as well, full of new friends, opportunities, and experiences. But she put a lot on hold to care for me and be there for me in any and every way she could, even though we were living several hours away from each other. I would like to believe that she knew in her heart had the roles been reversed, I would have done the same for her. What I know for sure is that the care and commitment Payal showed for me through the toughest time of my life made me realize what we have is for the long haul and that we will have each other’s backs no matter what.”
Payal on the other hand recounts that being the one, immovable support in her life, Dhairya gave her the confidence to go after all that she wanted, even through the most overwhelming of times. She shares, “The fast-paced demands of first, my course and then, my jobs, have put me through a fair share of stressful situations. Through it all, Dhairya has always been there for whatever I needed – lending an ear when I needed to vent, helping me work out my stress, reminding me of my potential and how I overcame similar occasions in the past, and sometimes even just comforting me with his presence while I process it all in my own time. The pandemic was a particularly difficult time for me, as the impact it had on my industry, along with the stress of worrying about the health of my parents so far away was overwhelming at times. Knowing Dhairya was someone I could count on, no matter what gave me the strength I needed.”
She continues, “With us, no issue or accomplishment is just his or mine, but rather ours, because what we have is a partnership. Everyone grows up learning about love and relationships from those around them, and while both of us came from very different backgrounds, we shared the same resolve to stay open and honest, avoid making the same relationship mistakes and learn and grow from our experiences. There is never a dearth of people questioning the choices you make in your career and personal life, but those voices never enter the space we have built for just us, one that is full of love and respect for each other.”
