Getting Ready Moments shot at Taj Lands End
Destination Weddings, Wedding Photography & Films - Aug 11, 2016
There is not a bride or groom in the world who doesn’t want to look their best at their wedding, as they embark on a brand new journey, surrounded by family and friends, the center of attention and affection. At the heart of all the celebrations, they are the celebrities! Here, Candid Photographer Parag Gopale talks about maintaining the fine balance between the craziness of the wedding day preparations and the need to create an oasis of calm before you say your “I Do’s”. He tells us how bride Carolin managed to find a space and vibe that made for some incredible wedding photographs.
“Despite the fact that radiance comes from happiness and anticipation, the ‘getting ready for the wedding’ is one of the most important processes on the day. After months of preparation and planning, the hustle and bustle, the rushing around, the continuous buzzing of phones can raise the couple’s stress levels. So, as a photographer, though I love capturing these preparatory moments, it is a test of my skills; not only my photography skills, but my ‘people-management’ skills. It is so important to make sure the couple are calm, composed and comfortable. An error in judgement or a setback can ruin a beautiful moment.
Photographing a bride like Carolin was a treat for me. While she was extremely particular about each and every element at the wedding, she never once lost her composure. When I walked into her bridal suite at the Taj Lands End, “Woww!!” was my involuntary reaction. Carolin had chosen the perfect room, overlooking the span of the magnificent Bandra-Worli Sea Link. I remember her saying, “The view from here calms me” – no mean feat for a bride two hours shy of walking the aisle. The suite was perfectly lit. Her bridal gown and shoes were laid out and I knew exactly how to document them.
The overall vibe at a venue is really important and Carolin seemed to know that instinctively. We had the space necessary to get into ‘the zone’ and that helped create the opportunity for some simply wonderful moments for the couple. I couldn’t resist capturing the landscape from the windows and later, I managed some fantastic shots at the Bandra Fort, just outside Lands End.
Finally, there is probably no sweeter sight for a photographer than watching a couple beaming and smiling as they look through their wedding photographs. And I managed to experience precisely that!”
