Christina and Rohan’s Platinum Day of Love
Love Actually, Pre Wedding Photoshoots - Mar 20, 2017
Our initiative Love Actually is a photo series that captures beautiful moments between couples in the most stunning locations across Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Here, Christina Schizodimou and Rohan Mandal share their cross-cultural love story in this romantic editorial photo shoot organized by WeddingSutra.
Love transcends all boundaries and it did just that when Indian-born Rohan Mandal met Christina Schizodimou in Aberdeen six years ago. “I had gone to the UK to pursue my Masters and took up a part-time job at a popular fast food chain during my off time. I met Christina there and was instantly attracted to her,” Rohan says.
Christina is Greek and had emigrated to the UK when her sister moved there, “My sister moved to Aberdeen several years ago to pursue higher studies and eventually, my mother and I moved there as well. We loved the education system there. As a student, I took up a part time job for some pocket money. I met Rohan at work. I would always check the roster just to see if his and my shift times matched!” she says laughing.
A beautiful friendship began to develop. They hung out in a group and also exchanged thoughts and ideas with each other. But it was still their job that provided them with ample opportunity to spend time with one another.
As time passed, Rohan was adamant about getting a job, he says, “I’d worked very hard to be in the UK… “ And Lady Luck smiled down on him. He got an offer letter from a top company and of course, he went straight to Christina with good news and a pertinent question.
Rohan smiles at the memory, “I’d liked her from day one. I was just waiting for the right moment to propose. I took her to a café, told her I had a job and was in a position to take care of her for the rest of her life. I was a bit worried about what her answer would be but she agreed. It was by far the best day of my life!”
Their ‘Platinum Day’ of Love arrived! The couple celebrated their bond and permanence by asking for the blessings of their parents. “We knew that we came from two different continents and our traditions and cultures were different but our parents really supported us and were more than happy when we decided to get married,” Rohan smiles.
With the wedding just around the corner, the lovely couple is enjoying each and every moment of their time in India and cannot wait to host a beautiful Bengali wedding in Mumbai. Says Christina, “I am very happy to experience such warmth and joy from his family and the people here. I cannot wait to experience the customs and be a bride.”
The shiny platinum wedding bands from Popley & Sons Jewellers reminded Rohan of their special bond, “These platinum bands mean a lot to us. They signify our relationship and are a beautiful reminder that true love always survives.”
The couple’s pre-wedding shoot with WeddingSutra was held at Thalassa, a Greek restaurant in Bandra. Christina said the restaurant reminded her of home, “I still cannot process it; this is so beautiful. I love the interiors and the relaxed atmosphere at Thalassa- it reminded me of the quaint cafes in Greece.” But she was also thrilled with a childhood dream of a wedding and a Prince Charming coming true, “The dress from Kamaali Couture and the makeup by Ritu made me feel like a complete princess! Parag the photographer put us at ease and was just lovely! I can’t thank the team enough for such a beautiful experience!”
WeddingSutra wishes the couple a lifetime of finding home in each other no matter where in the world they are.
