This Bride’s Sister Planned and Designed the Wedding Aesthetic All By Herself Giving Us Serious Sibling Goals!

Khushboo and Prashad’s wedding featured so many beautiful moments it became impossible to choose just one to focus on. But let’s start with the fact that the bride’s sister, Charu, planned this gorgeous fete and the way it would look.

From planning the décor for every function to picking outfits and jewellery for her, Charu used her knowledge of her sister’s discerning taste and her own innate sense of style to create ensembles and venues that were stunning.

Here Charu tells us how she did it.

“Khushboo and Prashad met on a dating app and clicked instantly. It was love at first sight for him and sweet and gradual for her. They got engaged about a year ago and finally had their grand Indian wedding in Delhi on November 25th.

I personally designed some of her outfits keeping her taste in mind. There was a great deal of customization involved in both jewellery and clothes since my sister is very picky. I also wanted to make sure that her being far away from home didn’t affect how she looked and felt on the most important and memorable days of her life.”

Mehndi and Sangeet
“I wanted the colors to be bold for her and Jiju. We picked blue and gold to complement the poolside decor.

Khushboo had a very specific lehenga in mind; a minimal/no border lehenga with golden flowers embroidered all over it. After realizing the stores didn’t come close, I took on the challenge of designing one for her. I found some gorgeous raw silk with the right embroidery at Asiana Couture. I paired the blue lehenga with a gold raw silk off shoulder blouse so she could wear big, bold jewelry. I sat down with Suhana Jewelers in Shahpurjat and gave them a detailed description of the colors, design and size of the necklace and earrings. Three months later we received exceptional pieces of jewellery which hopefully my sister will cherish forever.

For myself, I wanted to go neutral for the lehenga and team it up with a peppy pastel blouse. I selected an off-white raw silk with light gold embroidery. I wore the lehenga with a pink peplum blouse and a huge Victorian maang tikka in pink and with diamonds.”

Haldi
“For the haldi my sister was clueless about what to wear knowing the clothes would be soiled by the end of the ceremony. One thing that I was clear about was that we wanted golden gota flowery jewellery for her – we picked it up from some narrow lane in Chandni Chowk and also picked some sangeet favors in bulk for all the women and girls attending the functions. We then went to the Lajpat Nagar roadside shops and got a bright yellow kurta and white palazzo pants for her haldi function.”

Wedding ceremony
“The wedding ceremony was all about pastels.

After months of checking more than 30 stores out, it was only Asiana Couture for my sister’s attire. We’d had a year’s gap between selecting the lehenga and the wedding itself so we had the luxury of time for some customization. We picked pastel pink for her lehenga and blouse with antique gold work all over and a pastel mint green dupatta. Her head veil dupatta was pastel pink again with booti work in antique gold on it.

We designed the jewellery on paper and sat with her to discuss the details. She wanted a kundan choker and a sat lada with emeralds and pearls in it. We then took our jeweler’s suggestion and ordered a paanch lada instead with the same look. There were Sabyasachi inspired jhumkas and a nath in kundan with a hint of green and pearls. A huge maang tikka in kundan completed the bridal set. We refrained from buying bangles and opted for kadas instead.

For myself, I wanted to use bold colors and went for a colorful fully embroidered lehenga teamed with a coral boat neck blouse. All the lehengas were stitched with ample flare with a large number of kalis in them. I designed my own jewellery with Ratika from Suhana jewels again. I got a kundan two strand necklace from her and the hero of the show was my Pakistani side jhoomar in kundan and gold from her collection which we customized a little to suit my face structure.”

Reception
“For their reception, I did some groundwork by researching online and went to various stores to look for contemporary gowns with an Indian touch. Jiju had picked a navy blue suit with checks in hues of blue, a single strand of copper in them.

We wanted to coordinate my sister’s gown with the suit and picked a gorgeous Nitya Bajaj wine red gown with velvet, lace, a silk cape and lots of embroidery above the empire waistline. Nitya was so helpful throughout the process. My sister sent her measurements from the US and ordered the gown on FaceTime. Luckily it fit her almost perfectly when she tried it upon her return. We picked diamond jewelry; a diamond choker with matching earrings and bracelet to suit her contemporary look with a messy bun.

I picked for myself a black pompom fabric from Lajpat Nagar and a charcoal grey embroidered net for detail around the neck. I wore diamond earrings with a huge emerald in the middle and a matching hand harness to complete the look.”
