Anita Dongre’s Ethnic Chic Collection
Bridal Fashion and Beauty - Aug 26, 2013
We were backstage with Anita Dongre, just before her show at Lakme Fashion Week. Amid all the action there, the designer spoke about her newest festive collection ‘Jaipur Bride 2013’ showcased there. Crafted on a musical collaboration with songstress, music producer and independent artiste Sona Mohapatra, the collection focuses on a bold, free and independent bride. Dongre explains: “Today’s Indian bride wants to celebrate her special day with her closest people, and have as much fun as her guests do. She wants to dance, move around, and the Anita Dongre Bridal Wear range allows you to do that instead of weighing you down.”
The colorful jackets and bridal lehengas that were seen in the collection featured innovative geometric patterns and motifs, reflecting Rajastan, the city from where the designer drives her inspiration. One of her all-time favorite pieces from this collection is the bandhani gown with the open bandi, a combination of her preferred print and trend in one.
We asked Anita Dongre to share one advice she’d like to give every bride. “Don’t overdo it – keep it simple, feminine and elegant. Being the bride is not about wearing the most expensive and the heaviest embroidered lehenga, it’s more about looking desirable and sensuous.”
The coming together of two creative and strong feminine energies resulted in an enthralling show of Fashion and Music at the Anita Dongre show at Lakme Fashion Week . Most brides-to-be will love this collection- which is wearable, contemporary and yet traditional.
